Best Photography Interview of 2010

This is a video that I’ve watched over and over again. It’s one of those videos where your ears hear something new every time you listen to it. You pick up new information, new inspiration and even more of an admiration for being a working photographer. The life of a photographer is not always pretty; it’s not always sugar and spice. There are real hardships in the craft of making compelling images. It’s a real trial of character and persistence.

I’m always interested in watching interviews, hearing people’s stories and seeing what they’ve went through in their lives to get to where they are now. This is a true story of determination. It’s a story about a working photographer who at one point walked away from the camera. While trying to pursue his vision and take care of his family, in the name of taking care of his family, it fell apart. He found himself divorced and living in his brothers basement in Atlanta in a pool of debt, while selling his gear piece by piece, and holding a day job to keep a stream of income. A few years later he got back into the photography game when a friend approached him about shooting a wedding. Long story short watch the video! It’s an amazing story of perseverance, tenacity and determination. This was an interview shot for the creativeLive seminar that he taught over a period of 3 days.

What is creativeLive? It’s a revolutionary way for creatives to higher educate themselves through the use of the internet and it launched in 2010. They stream live classes for free! If you would like to take these classes on the go with you via a portable device, I highly recommend paying for the downloads of the classes you like. This also allows creativeLive to keep bringing in talent and creating a great learning experience for all us creatives. It also helps pay for the people running the show behind the scenes. Use twitter? You should! creativeLive also uses twitter for contests, questions and comments. A lot of what they do is based on twitter feeds. Check it out www.creativelive.com.
